If elected judge, another one of my concerns will be to make sure individuals with substance abuse problems are better served. Many defendants with addictions are not receiving the treatment they require, and also get caught in that cycle of repeatedly taking jail pleas, that eventually lands them in felony court.
There are several felony courts that are used to address addiction, I believe there need to be more at the misdemeanor level. We can read the signs of addiction, and make sure people struggling with substances get the treatment they need. This could reduce the number of felony drug cases our district courts currently face.
As judge, I will devote myself to breaking this cycle for people battling mental illness.
